Dream Marine’s Superyacht Charity Charter £30,000 For Five Stars Scanner Appeal

London, 15 December 2010: A weekend charter in the South of France donated by Dream Marine for the new 143 ft, 10-berth superyacht, MY Latitude, has helped to raise £30,000 in an auction for the Five Stars Appeal (www.fivestarsappeal.co.uk) that aims to buy a much needed MRI scanner for the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.

The amount offered for the MY Latitude weekend charter was by far the largest bid of the evening at the fund raising “Premiership Cook-Off” held at Alderely Edge’s exclusive Panacea Restaurant & Bar close to Manchester on 5 December. Other lots included luxury holidays in Barbados and Malta; a training day with the world WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan; a VIP Take That package donated by the band’s Jason Orange; and a trip to Paris Fashion Week.

Fourteen footballers were split into two teams on the night to cook, wait on the tables and serve behind the bar for over 100 guests, guests who would then decide which team would be crowned the overall winner of the “Premiership Cook-Off”.

Players giving their time for charity on the night included Micah Richards, Shaun Wright Phillips, Nigel de Jong, Adam Johnson, Gareth Barry and Joe Hart from Manchester City; Manchester United’s Gabriel Obertan; Ivan Klasnic and Stuart Holden from Bolton Wanderers; Blackburn’s Benjani Mwaruwari; and from Stoke City, Ricardo Fuller, Tuncay, Kenwyne Jones and Jermaine Pennant. The winning combination of cooks were the Manchester rivals, Micah Richards and Gabriel Obertan, who put club rivalries aside to produce a menu that consisted of a starter of chicken and black bean spring rolls, followed by a main course of blackened cod with Asian greens and a dessert of chocolate truffle cake.

“I spend quite a lot of time in the Manchester area where we have a strong client base,” explains Dream Marine managing director, Chris Yates. “When I was approached by the Five Stars Appeal I was only too happy to do what I could to help raise the much needed funds to buy an MRI scanner for the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. Both the charity and I can only thank the generosity of the couple that made the winning bid for the weekend on MY Latitude. I am certain, however, that they and their guests will have a memorable time and at the same time know that it is all in aid of a very worthwhile cause.”
